PANCHMARI

GENERAL INFO

  1. Pachmari, The Queen of Satpura, is a hill station in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh.
  2. Dhupgarh, the highest point in Madhya Pradesh and Satpura Range, is located here.
  3. It is a part of Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve.
  4. The name Panchmari is believed to be derive from the Hindi words Panch (five) and Marhi (caves).
  5. It is believed that these caves were built by five Pandava brothers of Mahabharata era during their thirteen years of exile.
  6. It includes three wildlife conservation units viz Bori Sanctuary, Satpura National Park and Panchmarhi Sanctuary.
  7. The town is not very large and most of its area is under the administration of the Pachmarhi Cantonment Board, serving the Indian Army.
  8. The climate here is mild, and generally warm and temperate.
  9. The temperature here averages 21.7 C.
  10. May is the hottest month and  December is the coldest month of the year.
